Iron Man was a wealthy American business magnate, inventor, playboy, and philanthropist named Tony Stark who suffered a chest injury during a kidnapping. His captors try to force him to build a weapon, but instead, he builds a mechanized suit to save his life and escape. Stark initially dons the mantle of hero and protects the world as Iron Man, but soon publicly reveals his identity to the world. Iron Man is a founding member of the Avengers and one of the greatest heroes of Marvel Comics.
